CPMD Staff Particpated and Serve as a Resource Speaker for the 14th NSQCS Info Caravan – July 4, 2024.

The Bureau of Plant Industry – Crop Pest Management staff Paul Bernard La Torre, Science Research Specialist I from the Plant Health and Pest Status Section (PHPSS), attended the “Information Caravan on Plant Nursery Accreditation and Plant Material Certification for Plant Nursery Operators”, and served as a resource person for “Cacao Pests and Diseases, and Their Management” on July 4, 2024 held at the BPI – Los Baños National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center (BPI-LBNCRDPSC). Further, this event was attended by keen participants, whom are nursery operators from Region IV-A, esteemed resource person from different DA – regional office, ATI personnel, BPI Central division staff, as well as by retired university college professor, and agriculture enthusiasts. Moreover, the successful event was spearheaded by NSQCS C.O. Senior Agriculturist, Ms. Aurora L. De Guzman together with her colleagues.
 
The objectives of this activity are to a) create awareness on the importance of Plant Nursery Accreditation and Plant Material Certification for quality planting materials; b) to provide technical know-how on the requirements and procedures of Plant Nursery Accreditation and Plant Material Certification; c) to provide technical know-how on the recommended practices in nursery establishment and management; d) to enhance the skill of the participant in recognizing the differences among registered cacao varieties; and e) to enable the participants to recognize the characteristic of a good planting materials of cacao. Further, other representatives from BPI division offices’ showcased their services, and discussed respective topics relevant to the said event. Among them were Mr. Arnel Basihan, Supervising Agriculturist from the BPI-NPQSD, Mr. Renz Kenneth Asor, Project Development Assistant II, from the BPI-PPSSD, and Mr. Noli Garcia, Senior Agriculturist, from the BPI-CRPSD, respectively.
