The team from the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) β Crop Pest Management Division (CPMD) and the Department of Agriculture β Regional Crop Protection Center 10 (DA-RCPC 10) conducted an assessment on the existing biological control laboratories in Northern Mindanao, on September 30 β October 4, 2024, as part of the nationwide laboratory evaluation.
BPI-CPMD Chief, Peter M. Magdaraog led the interview session from the existing village-laboratories including Central Mindanao University β Extension Laboratory, East West, Malaybalay City, Valencia City, Patag CoroΓ±a and Camiguin.
The data collected on the assessment will serve as the groundwork for conceptualizing guidelines, policies, and standards, as well as potential funding for expanding and installing new BCA laboratories in various regions.
On a courtesy call, Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan stressed his full support to the assessment that might uncover the challenges of the BCA production and demands that will support the upscaling of the biological control production that caters to both the small and large-scale farmers.
The activity is a component of a collaborative effort between BPI, PhilRice and IRRI for the development of an innovation system for Climate Smart Pest Management for Rice (CSPM).
Present during the five-day visitation were RCPC 10 Chief, Lucille T. Minguez, Provincial/City Agriculturists, Laboratory in-charge, BPI-CPMD and the RCPC 10 technical team.
