In the efforts to manage the devastation of onion armyworm in Region 3, the Bureau of Plant IndustryβCrop Pest Management Division, in coordination with the Department of AgricultureβRegional Crop Protection Center 3 (RCPC 3) and the Bongabon Office of the Municipal Agriculturist headed by Ms. Jackielou Gallarde, conducted a third farmerβs training on pheromone lure trapping and management strategies of major onion pests and diseases on October 15, 2024, in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija.
Over forty (40) onion farmers from different Farmers Associations (FAs) attended the one-day training and were formally welcomed by Ms. Gallarde. The Honorable Ricardo L. Padilla, the Mayor of Bongabon, also delivered a message of support.
CPMD technical staff, Mr. Paul Bernard La Torre discussed the major pests and diseases of onions, followed by the discussion of RCPC 3 initiatives on onion armyworm infestation, by Ms. Roselyn Fulgencio. The topics on onion surveillance, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) on onion armyworm, pheromone trap installation, and hands-on demonstration were presented by CPMD Assistant Division Chief, Engr. Remigio Tabil, Mr. Melvin Banagbanag, and Plant Health and Pest Status Section Chief, Mr. John Paul Maminta, respectively.
