As part of the regular activities of the IPM and Biocon Section, monitoring of the production and rearing of biological control agents (BCAs) were done every year to ensure the availability and to strengthen the utilization of BCAs in the region. In addition, through the Climate Smart Pest Management (CSPM) project funded by Department of Agriculture, Bureau Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) conducted monitoring and evaluation of three (3) existing biological control agents (BCAs) laboratories in CARAGA region last October 28 to November 1, 2024.
The laboratories evaluated were the BCA lab of the Regional Crop Protection Center Region XIII, the Provincial Trichoderma Laboratory in Barangay Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur and the Provincial Trichogramma Production Center in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur led by RCPC XIII OIC-Chief Ms. Ana Marie Plaza, Provincial Agriculturist Mr. Armando Valiente and Senior Agriculturist Ms. Sol Gualde, respectively.
The said laboratory monitoring aimed to assess the mass rearing and production protocols, handling and storage of BCAs as well as the problems encountered by staff during the mass production and/or rearing process, distribution of BCAs, expenditures and costs of infrastructures in the laboratory, trainings attended with regards to BCA production and distribution and village laboratory establishment.
