The Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), in collaboration with the DA-Regional Crop Protection Center – Region I, conducted field monitoring and validation of mango cecid fly infestations and other major pests in the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan. The team visited selected farms and interviewed farmers/contractors to assess and validate pests and diseases affecting mangoes. The observed pests included anthracnose, sooty molds, scale insects, and mango hoppers. Management practices among mango farmers include fertilizer application, weeding, fruit bagging, installation of insect traps, pesticides and fungicides application, and inducing mango trees. These practices are common among producers in the region.
