The Bureau of Plant Industry, Crop Pest Management Division (BPI-CPMD), in collaboration with the Regional Crop Protection Center VII (RCPC-7) and the technical staff of the High Value Crop Development Program (HVCDP) conducted monitoring and evaluation of Mango Cecid fly infestation during the period of April 15-19, 2024. The team has identified and monitored two major mango growing provinces in the region, including Cebu and Bohol. Each province identified three municipalities with two (2) plantations/orchards per municipality. This was monitored and assessed for each municipality. For the province of Cebu, the municipalities are Ronda, Barili and Cebu City, whereas Bohol, has municipalities of Carmen, Ubay and Guindulman. A Total of 12 sampling sites were monitored at the mango farm/plantation in the region. The team also provides technical assistance and recommendations for integrated pest management strategies such as timing of applications, field sanitation, pest identification, its characteristic, transmission, and others.

The purpose of this surveillance activity is to determine the extent of the cecid fly infestation and other pests and diseases in mango orchard farms in the region. This includes profiling farmers and consolidating different farmers practice control strategies for managing the pest. This was also designed to determine the pest incidence, mapping, profiling and to document major pest and diseases of mango.
