The Philippines hosted the 17th International Auchenorrhycha Congress and 13th International Workshop on Leafhoppers and Planthoppers of Economic Significance with a theme: โAuchenorrhyncha without bordersโ, organized by the Institute of Weed Science, Entomology, and Plant Pathology in collaboration with National Crop Protection and the Museum of Natural History at the University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos.
The Bureau of Plant Industry was honored to be one of the congress sponsors on this historic occasion. The renowned Dr. Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban, Director of the Bureau of Plant Industry, delivered the keynote message during the congress. Attendees from the BPI Divisions, led by Dr. Peter M. Magdaraog, Chief, Crop Pest Management Division, were able to obtain ideas, new knowledge, and technology on a variety of subjects and concerns about aunchenorrhynchous insects. This congress brought together international experts, participants from different countries, and academics to discuss current research and related themes, with a particular emphasis on the Auchenorrhynchous insect family.
