Five (5) technical staff from the Crop Pest Management Division of the Bureau of Plant Industry, led by Ms. Precerpina Luzaran, conducted a survey on existing Biocon laboratories in Region 2. The survey included the Regional Crop Protection Center, Ilagan Soil Laboratory, Quirino Experiment Station and Nueva Vizcaya Experimental Station. The activity aims to evaluate these existing biocon laboratories for the Climate Smart Pest Management (CSPM) Project focusing on the conceptualization of a model village laboratory for biological control.

Six (6) BCAs are being produced by Regional Crop Protection Center; 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘻𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘮 is being produced by Ilagan Soil Laboratory; 𝘌𝘶𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘢 and 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 are being produced by Quirino Experiment Station; and 𝘌𝘶𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘢, 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 and 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘻𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘮 are being produced by Nueva Vizcaya Experiment Station.

All research laboratories in Region 2 agreed on the need to establish a village laboratory in their area to meet farmers’ demands, considering their distance from the main laboratory. They also emphasized that establishing a village laboratory in their region would ensure the availability of necessary BCAs in nearby municipalities. All the laboratories have requested the BPI-CPMD to conduct training or retooling on BCAs to cater the needs of farmers.
