This evaluation is part of the collaborative project โDevelopment of Innovation System for Climate Smart Pest Management for Rice (CSPM),โ a joint initiative between BPI, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice).
The evaluation aimed to assess both the strengths and challenges faced by these facilities in supporting pest management in agriculture. Key objectives included:
a) Gathering information about the laboratory staff, including their contact details, roles, and technical knowledge, particularly in mass production.
b) Assessing the needs and issues encountered during operation, including the condition of insect rearing rooms, the availability of basic laboratory equipment, and the storage conditions for biological control agents (BCAs).
c) Reviewing the logistics of distributing BCAs to farmers. Gathering personal opinions on the potential need for establishing village-type laboratories in local communities.
