The team from the Bureau of Plant Industry, led by the Crop Pest Management Division, in collaboration with the DA-High Value Crops Development Program III (DA-HVCDP III), the DA-Regional Crop Protection Center III, the University of the Philippines Los Baños – Institute of Weed Science, Entomology and Plant Pathology (UPLB-IWEP), the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist in Bataan, and the Local Government Unit of Balanga City, leads the conduct of the first batch of training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Integrated Pest Management and Insecticide Resistance Management (IPM-IRM) on Mango on September 24, 2024, in Balanga City, Province of Bataan, as part of the Mango Rehabilitation Project.

The training was attended by 30 mango farmers from the Samahang Magmamanga ng Zambales Inc. and the Bataan Mango Growers Agriculture Cooperative. Its primary goal was to raise awareness about mango pests and diseases while providing essential knowledge on IPM and IRM practices.

Topics covered included four modules of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and GAP Certification Process discussed by Mr. Mikko Facturan from Plant Product Safety Services Division, protocols and regulations for domestic and export procedures by Mr. Churchill Lacuesta from National Plant Quarantine Services Division, nursery establishment and management by Mr. Ernie Lito Bollosa from Crop Research and Production Support Division, plant nursery accreditation and material certification by Ms. Reshel Deytiquez from National Seed Quality Control Services Division-Region III , Integrated Pest Management by Ms. Merabil Corpuz from Crop Pest Management Division including the mango orchard management by Mr. Yondre J. Yonder, Center Chief, BPI-Guimaras and Insecticide Resistance Management discussed by Ms. Jena Joy Apolinario from UPLB-IWEP.

Moreover, training kits and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials were provided to all participants to support their ongoing learning and implementation of the practices discussed.
