The staff from the Bureau of Plant Industryโ€™s Crop Pest Management Division, including Ms. Jade Enot-Sanidad, Mr. Ulysses Duque, and Mr. Jairus J. Abellar, recently participated in the โ€œRetooling Course for DA-RFO 1 Field Implementers of Crop Pest Surveillance, Validation, and Management (CPSVM).โ€ This important event occurred from October 8 to 10, 2024, at the DA-Pangasinan Research and Experiment Center (PREC) in Sual, Pangasinan, and was hosted by the Department of Agriculture-Regional Crop Protection Center 1.

The course brought together representatives from various divisions within the DA-Regional Field Office 1, including the Field Operations Division, Regulatory Division, Integrated Laboratory Division, and RFO 1 Field Implementers. The main aim of this training was to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in crop pest surveillance, validation, and management protocols relevant to the region.

As a leading agency in crop pest management, BPI-CPMD was invited to share expertise on several key topics:

1.Pest Surveillance and Monitoring Protocol on Corn and Onion presented by Ms. Jade Enot-Sanidad, Agriculturist I.
2.Pest Surveillance and Monitoring Protocol on Mango and Pest Reporting discussed by Mr. Jairus Abellar, Science Research Specialist I.
3.Rice Pest Surveillance System explained by Mr. Ulysses Duque, Consultant.

BPI-CPMD’s involvement in this retooling course program aligns with the division’s mandate for training and capacity building. It emphasizes the importance of pest surveillance and monitoring ineffective pest management strategies. Through such initiatives, BPI-CPMD aims to strengthen regional capabilities in managing crop pests effectively, ultimately contributing to improved agricultural productivity and sustainability.
