The Bureau of Plant Industry – Crop Pest Management Division (CPMD) together with the Regional Crop Protection Center IV-B and staff from Municipal Agriculture’s Office conducted field monitoring and validation ofonion armyworm infestation and installation of pheromone lure traps in three municipalities of Occidental Mindoro namely: San Jose, Magsaysay and Rizal.

The monitoring team of BPI-Crop Pest Management Division together with the technical staff of DA-Regional Crop Protection Center II, DA- Nueva Viscaya Experiment Station, and Local Government Unitconducted pest surveillance and monitoring as well as the installation of pheromone traps for onion armyworm in three municipalities in the province of Nueva Viscaya, namely Bambang, Dupax Del Sur, and Aritao on January 29-February 2, 2024.

PRIME

Pest Risk Identification and Management (PRIME) is a four-year project among the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), and the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) that aims to understand risk factors for pest outbreaks and identify appropriate management strategies and tactics to reduce crop losses. Five pests, which caused major crop losses in the Philippines, will be studied: blast (leaf and neck blast), bacterial leaf blight (BLB), rice tungro disease/ green leafhopper (GLH), brown planthopper (BPH) and rats.
