The Bureau of Plant Industry – Crop Pest Management Division (BPI-CPMD) technical staff headed by Division Chief, Dr. Peter Magdaraog convened a meeting with Dr. Saturnina Halos, Dr. Dorcas Trinidad and Ms. Julie Ann Barril on Aprill 11, 2024 at the University of the Philippines Los Bańos Foundations, Inc. (UPLBFI).

Dr. Halos discussed the concept of the R&D project using their available powdered formulations of entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) such as Beauveria, Metarhizium and Trichoderma as well as Bacillus thuringensis.These biopesticides will be tested on major insect pests of mango including the cecid fly, fruit fly and leafhopper.







The Bureau of Plant Industry attended and participated in the 17th International Auchenorrhyncha Congress and the 13th International Workshop pn Leafhoppers and Planthoppers of Economic Significance on April 1-5, 2024 held at SEARCA, UP Los Baños, Laguna.

The Philippines hosted the 17th International Auchenorrhycha Congress and 13th International Workshop on Leafhoppers and Planthoppers of Economic Significance with a theme:“Auchenorrhyncha without borders”, organized by the Institute of Weed Science, Entomology, and Plant Pathology in collaboration with National Crop Protection and the Museum of Natural History at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

Sanidad attended & participated a training on “Coaching for Performance Using The Grow (Goal, Reality, Option, and Will) Model" hosted by the BPI-Human Resources Section (BPI-HRS) last April 3-5, 2024 at the Boy Scout of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna.

PRIME

Pest Risk Identification and Management (PRIME) is a four-year project among the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), and the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) that aims to understand risk factors for pest outbreaks and identify appropriate management strategies and tactics to reduce crop losses. Five pests, which caused major crop losses in the Philippines, will be studied: blast (leaf and neck blast), bacterial leaf blight (BLB), rice tungro disease/ green leafhopper (GLH), brown planthopper (BPH) and rats.
