The term is particularly used for creatures that damage crops, livestock, and forestry or cause a nuisance to people, especially in their homes.




CECID FLY

Cecid fly (Procontarinia spp.) belongs to the family Cecidomyiidae, order Diptera. Also called mango midge, Leaf gall midge, Gall fly and Mango leaf gall. Considered as major pest of Mango which infest the young leaves and fruits.

- Eggs are small, white oblong laid on fruit or leaf surface and hatches in 1 - 2 days.

COCOLISAP

The first report of the said pest in the Philippines was on 2009. However, it was already been sighted in the northern Sulawesi, Indonesia during 1925-1928.

COCONUT LEAF BEETLE

Brontispa longissima (Gestro) or coconut leaf beetle (CLB) presence in the Philippines was reported in 2005, suspected to have entered into the country through the shipments of ornamentals.

Scientific name: Brontispa longissima (Gestro) (Coleoptera: Chrysomellidae) English name: Coconut Leaf Beetle.

LEAF BLAST

Blast is one of the most destructive diseases of rice that is found in both upland and lowland environments.It is caused by the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae. Water scarcity with high night humidity and low night temperature favors the development of this disease.

The fungus is both airborne and seed-borne. It can infect and produce lesions on most of the shoot including the leaves, leaf collar, stem, nodes, panicle and grains, but not the leaf sheath.

BACTERIAL LEAF BLIGHT

Bacterial blight (BLB) is caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. Oryzae, resulting in the reduction in photosynthetic area, reduction in 1000 grain weight, empty grains, and 20-50% reported yield loss.The disease is most likely to develop in irrigated and rainfed lowland areas that have weeds and stubbles of infected plants.
